Tax Information
You may be eligible to deduct the interest paid you paid on your student loans from your income, which could reduce the amount you
owe in income tax. The 1098-E tax form reports the amount of interest you paid on student loans in a calendar year.

MOHELA sends borrowers Form 1098-E by January 31, reporting the prior year of student loan
interest paid.
We provide the amount of interest you paid on your student loan(s) during the prior year because you may be able to
deduct some or all of your interest paid from your income on your tax return. Deducting your paid interest could reduce
the amount you owe in federal income tax.
Each of your federal loan servicers will provide you with a Form 1098-E if you paid interest of $600 or more to that
individual servicer in a calendar year. Your servicer may send your Form 1098-E to you electronically or via U.S. Postal
Service.
If you paid less than $600 in interest to any of your federal loan servicers, you may contact each servicer to find out
the exact amount of interest you paid during the year.
